Route 66 Inn

We'd driven for 20 hours and just wanted a cheap, clean place and a hot shower. Instead, there were cockroaches on the wall, the TV didn't work, and the bed had stains. We lasted about five minutes, took pictures, walked out, and found another room down the street. Before leaving, I asked the guy for my money back because I didn't want to sleep with cockroaches. He started yelling at me. Do not stay there.

The room had a moldy smell, broken bathroom tiles, bugs, and a heater that barely worked. We were cold all night and couldn't sleep. At first there was no water in the room. When we asked at reception, the woman there shouted that the whole city had lost water and it wasn't their fault. We pointed out that guests should have been told beforehand, since we needed to shower. I called the motel next door and they said they had water, so either we were misled or the hotel should have found another way to supply it. Somehow, by the time we went back to our room, water was running again. The manager was just as rude. The photos online were fake, too. Don't book this place.

Being on my own with my cat after driving from California to move to Oklahoma, I was already out of my comfort zone. A friendly welcome from the front desk would have helped me feel safer, but the woman there wasn't friendly at all. The motel is conveniently near food, gas, and the highway. In the dusty dresser I found Marshall clothes tags in the top drawer, and there's no coffee in the room. I haven't checked the bed yet, but another guest said there were spiders in theirs, and now I'm worried.

I called before arriving and was quoted $59, which is also what the online listing showed for a single room. At the desk, the woman asked me a lot of personal questions, enough that it felt like an interrogation. She said a one-bed or two-bed room was the same $59. The card reader didn't show the amount, and after paying I discovered the charge was $124 with tax. When I went back to the office, she got angry and said I must have misunderstood, but I heard the $59 price clearly, both during the call and at check-in.
