Rodeway Inn Santee San Diego East

I stayed one night at the Rodeway Inn Santee San Diego East with my parents and one aunt. Nothing was awful, but it didn’t feel comfortable enough for me to give more than 2 stars. The room looked dated and needed refreshing, and a couple of things didn’t work as smoothly as they should. Noise from people outside and nearby rooms was noticeable at night, though not overwhelming. The place also felt rather empty when I arrived, with fewer than four teenagers around the whole time I was there. I wasn’t looking for anything fancy, just more comfort and updating in the basics. Staff seemed distant and rushed, as if they were trying to get through the day. I don’t need a lot of attention, but I do like to feel welcomed. That didn’t ruin the stay, though it didn’t help. The inconveniences added up and made it harder to enjoy the night.

For the price, this is one of the best values among Rodeway Inns, and it costs less than most hotels. The property is well kept and, to me, the best Rodeway Inn in the San Diego East area, better than most others nearby.

Santee is out in East County, away from the city, and it didn’t strike me as a great location. There wasn’t much going on in town either. This is a place for a night when you just need somewhere to sleep, at around $148 a night. They said they’d provide service, but I got none during my stay. The pool looked much better in the photo than it did in person, just a flattering camera angle. They say no smoking, but people smoke, and there’s a strange guy who seems to be living there.

I’m sad to have this local motel in my neighborhood. The front desk person or manager was very rude, spoke to customers aggressively, and seemed not to care about the business. Santee deserves better service.
