Mid-City Motel

I really enjoyed watching the freighters rumble past from the room. The rooms themselves are nice, too, but Melissa is the real standout. She’s kind, big-hearted, and seems almost superhuman. Whenever I have a problem, she does what she can to sort it out. I can’t say enough good things about her.

The Midtown has dated rooms, but ours was comfortable and clearly well cared for. The mattress felt just right, firm without lumps or sagging, and the linens were clean and soft. The shower got nice and hot, with good pressure. You’re not getting a five-star place here. What you do get is a friendly staff and quaint, comfortable rooms. Look past the general appearance and give the Midtown a try. I don’t think you’ll regret it.

The front desk woman was very nice and accommodating. We could walk downtown for food, and the location was great for watching ships. The beds had been updated and the room was okay. There was a lot of marijuana smell, people drinking, kids running around without supervision, and loud music for pretty much the whole night.

The room smelled like human urine, and we had to buy Febreze to get through our three-day stay. The carpet was stained and had burn marks, even though these are supposed to be nonsmoking units. There were bikes all over and kids running around, plus a van full of garbage bags sitting in the parking lot. The whole place felt more like an inner-city apartment building than somewhere in such a quaint, historic area. I didn’t even realize people lived here. I booked by mistake, thinking it was a motel I’d stayed at years ago. That was a big mistake. The staff were very nice, the location was great, and the price was good. I’ve stayed in worse, so it’s not quite the bottom of the barrel, but close. At least we didn’t see roaches or bedbugs. I just wish they had higher standards for the rooms.
