A lively place to stop in Savannah, with local character, fun shops, and a convenient central spot for city tours. My favorite part was the art galleries, with two floors of local artists’ work.

A nice area to stroll and grab a bite. The street is for pedestrians, with plenty of shops, galleries, restaurants, and bars. I believe the trolley tour stops here for drop-offs.

Bring your walking shoes, there are blocks and blocks to explore. The covered open market has lots of wonderful artisans and something for everyone: spices, soaps, handmade jewelry, Gullah baskets, leather purses and wallets, plus plenty more.

This was a lovely surprise, a bit like The French Market in New Orleans, but more open air. The wide pedestrian streets made it easy to wander, and there are clusters of shops, galleries, and all kinds of restaurants. It stays open until 10 p.m., too. Sure, it’s a tourist spot, but the goods aren’t a pile of “Made in China” stuff. Local craftspeople sell well-made, useful things. The recycled sailcloth bags are gorgeous, and the shoe shop next door was great. There’s even a free praline sample half a block away if you want something sweet. I still miss New Orleans, but this was a lovely substitute. I was in Savannah for two days and went to VINNIE'S three times. It’s that good. It’s all good!

Good food, and a nice place to look around for some history or just sit by the river. It has a good dose of Southern culture.
