Hampton Inn & Suites Savannah/Midtown

The small issues kept this from being a five for me. I wish there'd been caffeinated tea to drink before bed. My key wouldn't open the gym door, but Victoria let me in, and she was extremely nice. The gym had no basket for used towels or sanitation wipes. The place was clean, breakfast wasn't bad, and the garage parking was free, which is a win in the city. Great for walking to food, the gym, and grocery stores. I'd give it 4.5 if I could.

The rooms were clean and spacious, but the service felt unprofessional. When we asked for fresh towels, none had been left in the room by evening. The front desk told me to come downstairs to get them instead of bringing them up. On arrival, I called about the room type and a woman hung up on me. I went down to say so, but neither woman acknowledged it or tried to move me to a suite. They said none were available, then the manager came out and sorted it out, giving me the suite I was supposed to have. Their attitudes were unnecessary. The new towels were very raggedy, as shown in the photo. They should reevaluate the customer service team; I don't know how long they'll stay open with that kind of attitude and unprofessionalism.

The sound insulation was poor, and I could hear people talking loudly at night. Some staff were terrible. During breakfast, one staff member said I'd used the wrong tongs and, “that is why we provide different tongs.” I understand the hygiene rules, but the sarcastic, condescending way they said it made me feel embarrassed. They then took the tongs and washed them, which only made the moment more awkward. They could have handled it in a way that felt more comfortable. When I contacted the hotel, they said they were concerned and regretted that I felt that way. It sounded polite and professional, but didn't feel empathetic. They don't seem to care about customer service.

The room was nice, and the hotel was quiet and not very crowded while we were in town to move my kid into SCAD. The beds were very firm, too firm for me, though some people may like that. The shower was nice, with hot water and strong pressure. Service was the problem. The first night there was no toilet paper, and the front desk woman said it was a long walk up, so I had to come down to get some. The next morning we asked for the room to be cleaned, with fresh towels and the bins emptied. The desk called housekeeping on the radio and they said they'd do it, but when we got back at 7 p.m. nothing had been done. I asked downstairs for four bath towels and was given four floor towels. We had to go back for the right ones because she didn't want to walk upstairs. It wasn't a good stay overall. Don't expect service.
