The Cotton Sail Hotel, Tapestry Collection By Hilton

The staff were wonderful, and I liked getting a text each day to see how our stay was going. We came back from a lovely vacation at the Cotton Sail Hotel, and we'll definitely stay there again. I chose it because a Riverfront room cost about half what similar rooms at other river hotels did. The rooms are on the small side but nicely appointed. We knew there weren't refrigerators, so we brought a Yeti cooler, which worked great.

The team, from housekeeping through reception and guest services, was absolutely delightful, quite different from some of the staff complaints we'd read. The location was great and we left happy with our stay. The floors can feel sticky or dirty because of the polyurethane used to preserve the hardwood, but that didn't bother us. Since it's a historic building, sound carries through the floors, which can be frustrating when other guests are unaware or inconsiderate. That's part of what to expect when staying in a piece of history.

Our room 305 was lovely, and the balcony and view were stunning. The bugs are why I gave the stay three stars. We got up early and went out Saturday with no trouble, but on Sunday, hoping to sleep in before checkout, we found huge palmetto bugs crawling around the room. It was terrifying, and we rushed to leave. When I told the front desk, they said, “well we exterminate every month.” I understand they're taking steps to reduce the creatures, but that response didn't reassure me. We won't be returning to Cotton Sail on our next Savannah trip. The $45-a-night valet fee also felt too expensive given the limited parking and the room price.

Comfortable bed, good staff, and a great location, though it can be loud at night. The room needed a proper sweep, and I would've liked a hot shower. Is hot water really too much to ask?
