Tru by Hilton Savannah Airport

We had a great three night stay and would happily come back on a future trip to Savannah. The staff were welcoming and kind throughout. There was a check-in issue, but the brunette woman, who I think might be a manager, stayed upbeat and relaxed and got it sorted out. Housekeeping was great too. Our room was clean when we arrived and was carefully cleaned and restocked on the second day. The hotel has a lively, laid-back feel. Upbeat music played at breakfast, and people were eating, chatting, playing pool, or heading out with their dogs. It felt like a chill, chic airport. The decor is terrific, from the layout, furniture, lighting, and colors to the Savannah mural. At night, watching the view from the window was fun. The TV had games you could play for free and a free Peloton exercise app, along with regular channels. Breakfast covered the basics and was tasty and filling. Each day there were pancakes with toppings, scrambled eggs or omelette turnovers, a meat, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal with toppings, bagels and bread, boiled eggs, coffee, and drink dispensers. I think there may have been cold cereal too, but I can't remember. The pancake machine was fun to watch, you wave your hand and it makes two at a time. The hotel welcomes dogs. We did notice shed dog hair on the elevator carpets, but having dogs around wasn't a bad experience, and I never heard barking. The bathroom has squeeze bottles for soap and lotion, so you may want to bring your own. It was nice to see comforters being brought from the laundry room when we got in the elevator. To me, it seems upper management cares about the team and the guest experience, because everything ran smoothly.

I’ve tried four different hotels near Savannah airport and none had been clean enough. Tru by Hilton finally changed that. The room was clean and worked really well, and the breakfast was nicely prepared. The breakfast area was neat and clean too. Friendly staff, comfort, and cleanliness are what I look for, so I’m glad I found a place near the airport I can stick with.

We booked for Valentine’s weekend, Saturday to Monday, but left Saturday evening. We travel with our two small Chihuahua mixes, who weigh 10 and 18 lbs, and chose the hotel because it was advertised as pet friendly. We always crate them if we leave them alone in a room. At check-in, though, we were given a paper with strict rules that hadn't been clearly explained beforehand. It said dogs could never be left alone in the room and that Animal Control Services would be contacted if someone broke that rule. That made us uncomfortable for the rest of the stay, and we didn't feel at ease going out to explore Savannah, so we cut the trip short. The front desk person was rude and unfriendly from the start. The rooms are small and seem built with cost cutting in mind. There was no in-room safe that we could see, and the soundproofing was poor. We could clearly hear the rooms above and beside us. It was an unpleasant stay, and we won't return.

I had a terrible time checking in for a one night stay. My credit card was charged seven times, and the person at the desk had nothing but attitude. There was a problem with the room, and when I asked to switch, they refused. I spoke to the manager in the morning, but she was just as unpleasant. They also denied my request for a late checkout. I've stayed at a few Hilton properties around the world and have never been treated this way. The whole staff needs to be fired and replaced with people who are properly trained.
