Home2 Suites by Hilton Chicago/Schaumburg, IL

We picked this hotel because it was really close to Outback Steakhouse, where we went for dinner, and Woodfield Mall. At check-in the guy at the front desk was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. I didn't hear any noise during the night. I woke up just 17 minutes before breakfast closed, but the staff member was friendly and understanding. She showed me where everything was and even gave me a tray to take breakfast back to my room. Everything was great, and I would definitely come back.

The best thing was the location in Schaumburg near the mall and restaurants. The night staff, though, were unfriendly and made you feel like a nuisance for coming to the front desk. The first time I went down, it took well over five minutes for her to come out because she was eating behind the glass. Our room wasn't cleaned well, with many hairs in the bathroom. There was only one packet of dishwasher soap, no dish soap, and no conditioner in the shower, which I discovered while already showering. Guests above us were running around loudly, and the pool was cold. Breakfast didn't start until 6:30, so we missed it the first day. My family ate the next day, but there were no gluten free options for me. I asked about staying two extra hours for a fee as a Hilton member while we were in town for a soccer tournament, but they said they were short on housekeepers and couldn't offer it. They wanted to charge for a whole extra night. I'd skip this hotel next time.

It's clean, modern, and well kept, and our spacious room had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were warm and welcoming. Breakfast was fine, nothing special but enough to get the day started. The snack shop was a drawback, with snacks, soda, and other items priced extremely high. The location is a little out of the way, though O’Hare Airport is only about 25 minutes away, which is handy for travelers. I had a very pleasant stay and would consider booking again.

This newer Home2Suites is a good fit for business travel, and everything in it works. The rooms are spacious and feel like small apartments, and the staff are friendly, kind, and keen to help. One minor annoyance: every Home2Suites with a Danby refrigerator has a loud knocking sound that can seem like someone at your door. I got fooled twice before figuring it out, and it can be unsettling in the middle of the night. Home2Suites also seems very popular, so the rooms get a lot of use. The materials and furniture don't look likely to hold up over time. I hope Hilton keeps them from getting worn and beaten like the Hampton Inn chain has. Highly recommended for business travelers.
