The staff were so welcoming, and they even brought us champagne to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We had a roomy accessible room on the ground floor with a little patio, which worked well since there’s no elevator. It’s a handsome historic building that’s been updated, with a bar and café. There aren’t any TVs, so bring a book or perhaps a computer for entertainment. There’s also a small pool and bocce court, though we didn’t get a chance to use them.

The welcome drink from the bar was appreciated, and the front desk staff were very pleasant at check-in. But our stay was unsatisfactory because of the room problems and the lack of follow-up. There was a large red mark on the bed sheets, which made it look like they hadn’t been changed after the previous guest. With no front desk or housekeeping staff available at night, we had to live with it. When I raised it at checkout, no one tried to resolve the issue. We paid $380 race rate for one night and got dirty sheets. I emailed after the automated invoice arrived and received no reply either. The hotel should take another look at how housekeeping and customer service are handled.

We booked two nights but left before the second was over, and we won’t stay here again. This was our second visit, and we’d hoped it would be better. The room was 95 degrees when we arrived, and the only water provided was in a hot carafe. We’d requested an upstairs room because we could hear the people above and beside us last time. The air conditioner was incredibly loud and kept us awake all night, even with the earplugs from the front desk. The old windows let in all the traffic noise from the street overnight, too. The rooms have been updated, but the price doesn’t feel worthwhile. The mattress was extremely firm, there was no coffee in the room, and the sink drain was clogged with hair and wouldn’t drain. The booking photos are very misleading. I honestly can’t understand all the positive reviews.

I was excited to have my June 2026 wedding at the Tatcher with my bridesmaids, but trying to arrange rooms turned into a huge amount of stress. My family and I toured in May 2025 and were told bookings would open in September 2025. We gave two possible dates and were told both were available. With 278 guests on the list so far and friends and family traveling from abroad, I needed a clear answer, but none came by email. On Tuesday, September 2nd, I left a voicemail and heard nothing back. I called twice on Wednesday, spoke with a woman at the front desk, and was told to contact the booking employee. That person then called and said my dates were open and I could book them, and that an email would follow. No email arrived. On Thursday the manager called to say the dates had been booked. I called the Tatcher twice and eventually reached her. She said she was busy decorating and couldn’t check the books then. We texted later that evening, and all I wanted to know was whether the booking was under my name. On Friday I called twice again; someone at the desk finally told me it wasn’t. I was told groups booking other properties owned by Tatcher had priority. I then had to figure out where I and my bridesmaids, or all the other guests, could stay in Hopland. I was told there were Airbnb’s nearby, but I couldn’t find any on the app. We found a place in Cloverdale, 20 minutes away. I would have been fine with a call saying the dates were taken, an apology, and maybe the Airbnb suggestions I was told would be emailed but never got. The Thatcher hotel is beautiful and the coffee is amazing, and I know there have been employee changes and difficulties. Still, calling so many times just to get a straight answer was truly painful. I hope the customer service improves so another bride doesn’t go through the same thing.

Carly had coffee and yogurt ready for us every morning, and our wedding group felt right at home chatting in the lobby near the bar, in the library, and around the pool. We were in Hopland for a wedding last weekend, and the hotel was delightful.
