The location worked really well for my work trip. I walked back from the movie theater on my own without feeling uneasy, tried several nearby restaurants, and liked that the hotel connects to a performing arts theater. If you're seeing a show, that setup could be ideal. The customer service was a pleasant surprise, too. The room itself was another story. I care most about a comfortable bed and decent shower pressure, and neither was there: the mattress felt springy, and the shower barely trickled. The website also makes the place look fancier than it is. The old building has creaky floors and a worn-out elevator, which I can live with, but finding the parking and rear entrance was confusing, especially if you don't know the area. It wasn't all bad, but I left unsatisfied.

Proctor's Theater is right next door, and Rivers Casino is just a few miles away. The hotel was clean, as were the rooms, and the front desk staff were friendly. Breakfast was a decent continental spread. The room had a good-sized bed, a large bathroom, a hot plate on the counter, and a big fridge. The elevators are tiny, maybe room for four adults. I'd stay here again.

With Jazz Fest filling the area, I couldn't find another place at such short notice, so I spent the night with the windows open in 90-degree heat. The noise from traffic and people yelling made it miserable. The evening before, I had been told there was no air conditioning. I got out of there as fast as I could the next morning. It then took a month to get a refund for the night I didn't stay, and there was no credit or discount for the awful, uncomfortable night I did spend. A lesson learned. One star only because the form wouldn't accept zero.

There was nobody at the front desk when I arrived, and I couldn't get into the locked hotel or reach anyone by phone. Three other groups were stuck outside too. We learned the hotel had no air conditioning, canceled our bookings, and went to the hotel next door. Their front desk said the situation had been going on for months. Some people we met had kept their reservations. They showed us photos of their room: bedding with holes that looked like bite marks, a microwave without its door, a shattered stove, and a TV sitting on the refrigerator. The place looked nothing like its online photos, and the man at the front desk was rude.

I liked the old-time feel of the place, something you don't find elsewhere in town, and would stay again. It connects to the theater mall and is near restaurants and bars. The free breakfast wasn't a full hot one, though, with no eggs, ham, sausage, potatoes, and so on. “Dave” at the front desk was very nice. He helped me check in early and explained the parking well. The lot is behind the building, with the entrance from the Clinton, as shown in the pictures. The room was fine and had the kitchen shown in the photo, but it wasn't in mint condition and the cleanliness was okay, not great. A broken Venetian blind in the bathroom cost it a star. The elevator is small.
