Comfort Inn & Suites Schulenburg

Breakfast was great and the location is convenient, but I won’t return. The price is cheap, and you get what you pay for. The first room had a bug right on the bed, so I switched immediately. In the next room, the AC wouldn’t cool, the floors and towels were filthy, and the bottoms of my socks turned dark brown. There were socks, toothbrush heads, and other trash still on the floor, so the room hadn’t been cleaned properly. Then the next morning I saw another bug crawling across the tile.

The room was better than I expected: clean, quiet, no bugs, and both the AC and WiFi worked well. The room, halls, and lobby were all good. The parking lot was almost empty, and the place felt bare, like hardly anyone was around. Being off the highway also made me uneasy, since it seemed like the sort of spot where car theft and people you don’t want around might be an issue. I stayed in room 221 on 2-11-26 and paid $112. I’m a diamond choice member, but getting an upgrade was like pulling teeth. The manager acted as if he didn’t know about the benefit, and I had to show him “complimentary” upgrade in the Choice app. After a back-and-forth, he finally gave it to me. I was already hesitant to stay in this town, but it was my closest option. The reviews here and at the Holliday weren’t great either. I wouldn’t come back because the manager made the upgrade such a hassle. I run into this with Choice hotels often. La Quinta has never been a problem.

The main drawback is how close it is to I-10. The hallway has a bit of a musty smell, but the rooms are extremely clean and look freshly painted. The whole place is clean. Staff were moderately courteous and helpful, which could be a cultural thing. I’d stay here again without reservations.

Breakfast had scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles to make, fruit, fruit juice, and COFFEE. We’re staying two nights. Our room faces I-10, but the AC fan drowned out the noise from the 18-wheelers. The reception area and room were clean. The elevator was out of order last night, but they were working on it at 7:30 this morning. We’re on the 3rd floor, so at 74, that’s a challenge. 😉
