Canopy by Hilton Scottsdale Old Town

The pool and bar were the highlights for us, especially since we were looking for some sun that time of year when there’s none back home. The hotel is almost brand new, so it was clean, modern, and nicely presented. We had a fantastic experience. A special thanks to Lead Sales Rep, Tiffany Nguyen, who made my wife feel seen and special on her birthday.

The room made strange creaking and groaning noises at night, almost like it might be haunted 😆. The other challenge was finding a quiet spot. The lobby is open and really noisy, and the lovely 7th floor outdoor lounge had its music turned up to a blistering level by staff at 9am, so there was nowhere to enjoy a quiet morning or conversation. We stayed a week and found the hotel comfortable, with friendly, helpful, professional staff. The location is excellent too, within walking distance of most Scottsdale attractions.

Alison served us breakfast and was a complete joy, and Delaney was lovely poolside, with plenty of wit and laughter. She worked hard, and we wanted to tip her $50 on our $200 tab. But Alma and Zylo behind the bar took our five-star experience down to two. I asked for a felt tip pen because the ballpoint wasn’t working in the heat. Alma spelled her name out for me, apparently finding it funny to treat me as if I couldn’t spell or understand spelling phonics. I did not find it funny. Zylo came to her defense, and was cavalier and disrespectful. I also overheard him apologizing to another patron about overcharging them $275. What? I hadn’t been drinking. My husband and I have two sons, both engineers, and I was mortified by how blatantly disrespectful Alma and Zylo were. My husband is an aerospace executive and was shocked too. We stay at Hilton's all the time, but we’re embarrassed for Canopy Scottsdale. We won’t stay here again or recommend it. I hope management takes this as a lesson in how to do better.

An unruly customer spent some time at the bar, and I noticed that no supervisor or manager was in sight until she was escorted out. The bar staff handled it discreetly and with courtesy and grace. We stopped by the bar at the canopy for drinks and had a lovely evening. Preston was a welcoming bartender, great company, and easy to talk with. All in all, a great night.
