The Monarch

November 3, 2025. I booked through a third party and called to ask about early check-in. The woman on the phone was super kind, and she was just as nice when I met her on arrival. The location is perfect, with lots of places within walking distance. I had read about the construction after booking, so I was glad I knew what to expect. The hotel really is under construction, not just getting a coat of paint. I had one of the remodeled rooms. It was okay and clean enough to sleep in. There were a few long black hairs and some stuff under the bed that looked like trash, but neither bothered me. Construction noise was minimal, and I had no trouble with hot water. I'd stay again.

The front desk was kind and sympathetic, and refunded my entire stay without any issue. The hotel may have potential once its renovation is finished, and the location is great. But given the state of the rooms, lack of hot water, and amenities shown in the advertising that weren't available, I don't think they should be booking guests during construction. I stayed two weeks ago. Online, the hotel was shown with a beautiful lobby, pool, and renovated rooms. On arrival, we were sent to a makeshift lobby with a folding table and chairs. Our room looked updated, but the bathroom ceiling still had mildew and mold, and the shower floor was covered in dirt. There was no hot water. When I called the front desk, they said construction meant they couldn't guarantee hot water because it was turned off and on frequently. The sliding door was broken and wouldn't lock. The main room door closed and locked, but didn't fit its opening properly, leaving gaps at the edges where you could see into the hallway. If my 18-month-old daughter hadn't already fallen asleep for the night after a long travel day, I wouldn't have stayed even one night. The hotel is in a great spot and has potential, but I don't think it's ready for guests yet.

The only real upside is the location, close to Old Scottsdale. The room itself was bare, badly lit, and dated, with an uncomfortable bed. A major renovation was underway, but the hotel site didn't mention it, and the walls were very thin. The shower had barely a drip of water pressure and no hot water. The bathroom door was an unfinished sliding door with no handles or lock. I was very disappointed.

The mini fridge was so loud I had to unplug it, and that meant losing a meal. The floors were slimy and filthy, and my socks turned black right away. When I spoke to the manager, he basically said there was nothing he could do. I gave them a chance to move me to a room with hot water, but they couldn't arrange one anywhere on the property. My shower had no hot water, pink mildew, and rust stains all over the tub. I understand construction was going on, but online this was advertised as a four-star stay. In reality it was below Motel 6 standard, believe it or not. Stay away unless you want a less-than-Motel 6 experience in the middle of Scottsdale, which I didn't know existed. Call this hotel, motel, or whatever you want.
