Nick, the guest receptionist, gave me all the information I needed before check-in, and the staff were phenomenal throughout. The hotel was quiet and peaceful, and breakfast was great. I love this location and will be back to the SeaBrook Best Western for another getaway.

There were roaches in my room, the curtain wouldn’t close all the way, and the air conditioner blew the same air whether set to warm or cool. The repairs and fixtures looked poorly done and cheap. The breakfast area was uncomfortable too. Employees seemed to watch people and gave dirty looks if anyone took extra, even though the choices were basically cereal and yogurt. Coffee wasn’t replenished daily, and complimentary water was only available on the first day, in a bottle that felt cheap and not worth offering. Don’t be fooled by the photos. Extremely disappointing, especially under the new management.

The owner was really nice when I spoke with him after writing my first review. He talked about the difficulties of buying an old hotel building and giving it a new look. It’s an affordable base for local attractions, with clean rooms and a clean lobby, friendly front desk service, and large suites. Hot water and good pressure in the bathroom, and rooms are cleaned daily if you’re out when housekeeping comes. The free breakfast isn’t IHOP, but I’d take it over McDonald’s. Ask for more than one egg in your omelette. There’s only one waffle maker for the breakfast crowd. The hotel is within walking distance of some decent restaurants, about 8 minutes by car from NASA SPACE CENTER, 10 minutes from Kemah Boardwalk, and 15 minutes from the shopping mall. Once the pool is warmed and there’s a treadmill in the gym, this place will be a GEM. It’s worth the price.

I’m staying here for a while as I look for a new home. I work as an airline flight attendant and spend plenty of layovers in hotels, and this place really stands out. The owner is here almost every day, and everyone is friendly and tuned in to what guests need. My room is large and has a microwave and refrigerator. Housekeeping does a great job, and breakfast is fantastic, with a woman making omelets along with other breakfast treats. For the price, you can’t do better. Five stars for Melrose. Come join us!
