SaltLine Hotel

There’s a lot to like here: the hot tub was well maintained, rooms were clean, and the beds were quite comfortable for hotel beds, on par with or better than Holiday Inn. We have chronic pain and still couldn’t sleep well on them, but they’re very nice beds. Breakfast was great, with biscuits and gravy every day and a waffle maker, and the owner clearly tries to make the stay a good experience. They even left towel animals, which was a delightful bit of whimsy for us adults. Kind staff too, especially the owner, who let us roast marshmallows at the patio fire and was really nice when we mixed up our dates and checked out late. There’s an EV charger, swings and outdoor play spaces for kids, cornhole for adults, and places for dogs to play. The outdoor seating with fairy lights and fires was relaxing. It’s very clean for a pet-friendly hotel, and the teas and other amenities were nice. One thing to know: being dog-friendly doesn’t mean dogs can go everywhere. They can’t come into the pool or breakfast areas, even if contained, so we took turns getting breakfast. I suspect that’s a food-safety rule that applies at other hotels too.

The rooms look stylish and are nicely laid out, but sound carried right through the very thin walls. Our room also smelled strongly of wet dog. We know the hotel welcomes pets, but the odor was hard to ignore and made the carpeted room feel less comfortable and clean.

The location was our favorite part, since it was so easy to walk around. The staff were friendly, and they welcomed our two dogs. Our room was clean and matched the booking photos exactly, which was a pleasant surprise.

After seeing all the positive past reviews, I arrived with high expectations. I understood the hotel had been closed for maintenance, but some things made me wonder if it was ready to reopen. It’s probably the nicest hotel in Seaside, but I think we’ll stay in another city next time. The walls were extremely thin. From our third-floor room I could hear every conversation and TV in the neighboring rooms, plus what sounded like elephants running at all hours. I travel for work and know other guests aren’t fully under the hotel’s control, but it’s something to be aware of. The pool wasn’t heated due to what I was told was a maintenance issue, which was a real disappointment during spring break. The internet didn’t work at all during our stay, which is hard to believe for a hotel these days. The front desk staff didn’t seem prepared to answer basic questions. When I asked where to go for a whale-watching viewpoint, the person said, “I don’t know. Cannon beach?” I’d expect hotel staff to get that kind of question. Breakfast wasn’t great either. It’s free, convenient, and probably fine for kids, but previous reviews had given me the wrong impression.
