Cecil Bacon Manor

The resident golden retriever, delicious breakfasts, easy parking, and beautiful rooms all made for a wonderful stay. We were in the penthouse, and it was perfect for our weekend with two moms and our four more-or-less adult college kids. My daughter, a UW student, picked Bacon Manor for the getaway. Anne hosted us, and she and her son David, the homeowner, helped us with everything. We had the best time and hope to come back.

David was helpful and very accommodating, and I’ve already booked another stay. This gorgeous mansion is in the loveliest part of Capitol Hill, just a couple of blocks from restaurants, great cafes, and a bakery. My room had everything I needed.

The people were super friendly, the decor is gorgeous, and breakfast was good. The bed was shockingly cozy. With the library and tea collection, I could easily have spent the day reading there. We stayed in the Rose room. I wouldn’t say it’s worse than an average hotel room, but anyone sensitive to mold or mildew might want to think twice. The shower is separate from the bathroom, and its door opens straight into the room. I’m sure some guests aren’t very careful about dripping water on the carpet or letting steam fog up the room.

Breakfast is light: they bring you a plate with a small dollop of scrambled eggs, toast or half a bagel, a little yogurt, one piece of bacon, and some fruit. There’s water, coffee, milk, and sugar for the coffee. My concern is the person who greets guests and serves breakfast. They act passive-aggressively and childishly, then lie about it. It’s a family-run place, but they seem fine with people making rude gestures, including sexually harassing ones, and then lying about it.
