This was the REAL Seattle. The room was cheap, nice, and clean, with a clean bathroom and towels and no bed bugs. We had a first-floor room and it wasn't quiet, but that didn't bother my friend and me since we were only staying the night after partying in Cap Hill. Coming down the hill was a pretty walkable distance. The small space heater was greatly appreciated. The TV wasn't a smart TV, but we had Wi-Fi, ice, coffee, and some things to grab for breakfast. Very nice. The night and morning staff at reception were attentive and kind. The person who checked us in was somewhat rude. I understand they may get fed up with some people in the area, but as tourists, it made us uncomfortable. Luckily there were no problems, and our last-minute reservation through a third-party app got us checked in pretty quickly. That's the only way I'd recommend booking here. Otherwise, they were charging $115 a night, and at that price I'd pay a little more for an actual hotel rather than a motel room. For $72, it was solid. They asked us for a deposit, though I don't know if that's standard or if they thought we were homeless and wanted to make sure we wouldn't wreck the room. The cleaning team really does their job!

At the amount I paid, the experience was somewhat positive and I can't complain too much. I booked during a slow week, though, and upcoming dates were comparable in price to other 3 or 4 star motels. I might still book here if I got a really good deal because the location is good. When the price rises to match nearby motels, it falls short in a lot of ways. My room was pretty clean, the bathrooms were renovated, parking was included, and the front desk staff were nice. The parking is free, which is great, but the lot is small and tight. Forget about fitting a big SUV or truck. The slope to the underground lot is steep enough that my sedan scraped the bottom of its bumper. If you're a light sleeper, the location may be tough. You can hear noise from inside, including people shutting doors next door and car doors downstairs, as well as traffic. The heater worked, but every minute or so it made strange loud noises, started ticking, then went back to normal and repeated the cycle. My queen room had just two wall plugs, both in the main room, and none in the washroom. To use a hair dryer or other device, you'd have to do it outside the room where there's no mirror. The TV didn't work, and the extension cord powering the mini fridge gave out. Luckily I caught that before my medication spoiled. The elevator had been out of order for weeks.

The extra charge on my card is still a problem, even though I had to call to get it refunded. That alone pulled this down from the two stars I would usually give it. The place is cheap for downtown Seattle, and parking is included, but the rooms are cramped and run-down. It was loud until about 3 a.m., quiet for a few hours, then noisy again around 6. We left a day early and found another hotel. There's no elevator, so upper-floor guests have to use the stairs. If you only need a cheap, no-frills room, maybe it works for you. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I like.

Dave, who was working overnight, really went out of his way to help with our request and checked back later to see if we were comfortable. The rooms were spotless, and the staff were friendly and capable. It's a safe, affordable motel in the middle of downtown Seattle, with gated parking. The building is historic, and there aren't extras, but we didn't run into any major problems. We enjoyed our stay.

The morning grab-and-go spread worked for me: bottled water, pastries, fruit, and granola bars were enough since I don't need a hot breakfast. There's also a microwave in the lobby with coffee and tea, and a nice donut shop next door. My room was clean, though dated. The furniture looked more modern than the bumpy walls, and some power cables for the lights and fridge were exposed. I found it annoying that there was no ceiling light, just lamps, but it wasn't a big deal. The room had a small fridge, coffee maker, desk, and TV, and the bathroom had what I needed. Staff were nice and quick to help. They were all younger people. I was on the first floor, so there was more noise, but I had earplugs. The entrance gate shuts at 10 p.m., which was reassuring since random people can't just walk in overnight. The Dylan is one of the cheapest downtown hotels, and you can tell it's basic. For a safe place to sleep and shower on a budget, I'm happy with the price and would consider staying again. There's no pool or hot breakfast, though.
