American Inn Sedalia

The walls were so thin that I heard everything next door, and the work going on there at 2 a.m. was loud enough to shake them. This happened after I woke up in the middle of the night. My first room smelled like a sewer and had a heater that didn't work. They wouldn't refund me, so they moved me to another room.

The second room smelled better, but a roach ran across the table as soon as we walked in. Our belongings were still in the first room, which had flies, roaches, and crickets all over, and smelled like smoke. We came to stay near the State Fair, but after we complained, the front desk woman came into the room and said we were making it up, even though we had video. She offered a can of Raid for us to kill the bugs and said people who stay at this motel know there will be bugs. We called right away and moved to another place down the street.

I'm 62, and I've never stayed anywhere as bad as this. I can't imagine how anyone could rate it above one star. I won't go into all the details, but please avoid it.

The beds were tiny and uncomfortable, and the sheets were stained and gross. The pillows looked twice my age. There were also crickets and flies throughout the room, gum and crumbs on the floor, and questionable stains and buildup on the chair cushions. The broken toilet seat wouldn't stay in place, and I had to fill the bowl by hand to get it to flush. At least the air conditioner worked well. Two nights cost $340 because it was fair weekend. Worst money I've ever spent.
