We’d stayed here before, when it needed updating but was tidy, with amazingly helpful and friendly staff and delicious breakfast. That’s why we came back. This time, after I asked for a room that was safe, clean, and comfortable, we were put in room 204. It was filthy. Hair was everywhere, the mattress and blanket were stained, one bed’s sheet was so thin it was nearly worn through, and the blanket had a hole. We took that blanket off and used the other one from the stained mattress. The padded chairs were badly stained too. There was grime on the walls, switches, and tabletop, the curtain was off its track and wouldn’t close until we fixed it, and the carpet badly needed vacuuming. If it hadn’t been late and cold, and if we’d known where else to go, we would have left. Breakfast was just okay. We didn’t see any water, the coffee in the pump pots was lukewarm, and the only fruit was a bowl of overripe bananas. The staff were still friendly and helpful. When we politely raised the problems, they said we’d gotten one of the “unremodeled” rooms. I’m not sure what remodeling has to do with cleaning, especially since I’d asked for a clean room. We were severely disappointed and won’t stay again. If you do, I’d ask to see your room before paying and have a backup in mind. I was told the hotel behind this one had the same owners, so who knows if it would have been better. Next time we’ll drive farther and stay somewhere else.

At the price we paid, this was one of the better values I’ve found in the past year. The main room looked recently remodeled and was clean, the bed was comfortable, and having two chairs was a nice touch. The bathroom fixtures were old but worked, and everything was clean. Breakfast was fine. My wife wouldn’t give it five stars because the room had no creamer or sweetener for the coffee. I’d definitely stay again, though. The Quality Inn Selinsgrove gets a thumbs up, and I’m sure the creamer and sweetener will be there next time.

The desk clerk on 1/13 seemed like she couldn’t care less about being there, so I have to give this two stars. While helping a customer, she kept talking to friends in the lobby or someone on her earpiece. I’m not sure who she was speaking with during my check-in, but it wasn’t me. Customer service needs to improve.

The front desk woman was pleasant and helpful when I checked in, and the price for the night was good. But the room had flaws all over: stains, dust, trash beside and behind the bed, and dirty walls. It smelled musty and was hot, and even though the beds were mostly clean, they were not comfortable. The outdoor pool isn’t inside. There’s free breakfast, but I passed on it. I just needed a place to rest, but by morning the room had definitely set off my allergies. In my opinion, it needs a very deep clean and better cleaners. Next time I’m in the area I’ll skip it and stay at the Holiday Inn next door.

It was an okay stay. The room was clean and the hotel was quiet. The heat wasn’t working at first, but the person at the desk fixed it quickly. The staff were really nice, though one of the room lights didn’t work.
