Comfort Inn Monticello

Our crew of 12 or more came to town for the UVA Hospital buildout and hoped to find a decent place nearby. On the first night, our lead technician booked and paid for a room under our reservation to check the accommodations, then left to meet the rest of us. When he came back, his key card was inactive and he couldn’t get into the building. The manager on duty said there was an issue with the card and that she’d been hoping he’d come back to fix it himself. No call, no email, nothing. They’d collected all the information needed at check-in but didn’t use it when the problem came up. He had to call our emergency after-hours owner to sort out what should have been handled when the card was swiped and accepted or declined. The room was marked “Handicap.” I work in this industry and can say there are multiple ADA issues in the bathroom: the handrails are in the wrong places, the shower faucet isn’t labeled hot or cold, and once you figure out which way is which, the water can change from hot to cold to instantly scalding. There’s no pattern to it, just unregulated temperature. That’s extremely dangerous for someone who’s actually disabled and unable to adjust. The vent fan didn’t work either, leaving moisture on the floor and surfaces and making them very slippery. I raised these issues with the “manager” on duty on 1/30 and was met with extreme rudeness and dismissal. We will not bring our crew back, and plan to share our experience with the Township of Monticello / Charlottesville.

We found bed bugs this time. It happens, I guess, but it happened to us. The front desk was very nice about it and offered another room or a cancellation with a full refund, which seemed reasonable. Everything else seemed nice during the hour we were there. Best of luck to whoever’s next!

The people were absolutely fantastic, and breakfast was the best. We’re on our way home from Disney World, and honestly it was way better than the $200 character breakfast we had at Disney. Everything was good!

The entrance from Hwy258 can be tricky to find if you don’t know the area. The exercise room is small but does the job, and breakfast is included, which is always a plus. It’s a solid, safe, clean hotel with recently remodeled, upgraded rooms.
