The personal touches made our two-night anniversary stay at the Clifton feel special. We were welcomed with champagne, a happy anniversary card, and a small plate of aperitifs. Since we'd booked a couples massage, they upgraded us to a bigger room at no charge. It kept the property's original charm while having modern touches. Andrew was thoughtful and helpful, even parking our car, and the whole staff was cordial and kind. People we met around Charlottesville were friendly as well. We had dinner on the enclosed patio. The food was delicious, though service took a while, which didn't bother us since we were there to relax. My husband's trout was excellent. I ordered papardelle with chicken; it tasted good, though it wasn't quite hot enough for me. I'm very sensitive to food temperature, lol. Andrew suggested Tovola in Charlottesville for our second dinner, and that was delicious too. The grounds were lovely and well maintained even in gloomy fall weather. I walked down to the lake and the pool and hot tub area, all beautiful. The bed was comfortable, and evenings were quiet. Our TV was supposed to be smart but wasn't, so we couldn't watch our beloved Kentucky Wildcats basketball game. We survived! We loved the Clifton and its staff, and would highly recommend it. Thank you!

The check-in and checkout experience at The Clifton left us disappointed during our mini-moon. Although I'd been in touch with reception by email and phone regularly before the visit, the concierge was unavailable when we arrived, and another staff member checked us in. Our first night went smoothly, but the next evening's Chef’s Table reservation turned into a mess. We arrived 45 minutes early and waited at the bar. After confirming our reservation, we were eventually seated in the main dining room. When we asked what was happening, we were told the new chef no longer offered the Chef’s Table, that staff had tried calling us several times, and that they hoped we wouldn't show up. We had spoken with staff just days earlier and were staying at the hotel, so that explanation felt weak and dismissive. During dinner, the manager spoke with other tables but seemed to avoid ours. At checkout the next morning, nobody explained what had happened or asked how our stay was. The communication gaps between shifts and between restaurant and reception were troubling. We'd heard strong recommendations, especially for the Chef’s Table, but at this price, with so many excellent alternatives nearby, I can't recommend staying or dining at The Clifton. I hope they take this seriously so future guests have a better experience.

I was there for a family wedding for four days and three nights, and really didn't want to leave. The grounds were unbelievable and dog friendly, the meals were delicious, and the staff were kind and accommodating. I saw about ten guest rooms, all cozy and unique, with VERY comfy beds. I'll be excited to visit again. Thanks for the love, Clifton & Staff!

The manager's attitude was the worst part of an already disappointing wedding visit, especially the repeated efforts to get extra payments for services, including outdoor heaters in the rain. We weren't allowed to pull into the driveway to unload our bags, and nobody was available to help. The food quality disappointed me, especially the uncooked carrots that seemed freshly harvested. Service felt unpolished, and one gentleman's poor personal hygiene was noticeable enough that some ladies reapplied perfume. The gazebo curtains were infested with black widows and other insects. Maybe the 'New Management' hasn't been an improvement. Fri. OCT.31 Today We Received a computer-generated A.I response. Shock/ Not Shocked! Par for the course.

The property's history is interesting, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We chose it for a quieter anniversary stay away from chain hotels. It needs some cosmetic work, the food was a little underwhelming, and there isn't much to do or many places to relax on the property.
