Best Western Shallotte / Ocean Isle Beach Hotel

The location worked well for us, with Holden Beach and Ocean Isle under 30 minutes away and Shallotte proper about 10 minutes away. The rooms had a comfortable amount of space, though the a/c took some fiddling to get set right. Breakfast was okay: the two egg choices didn't look very appealing, but waffles and biscuits & gravy were a plus. A couple of things my kids wanted had run out, but staff replaced them quickly. I'd call it a perfectly adequate hotel, and we'll likely stay again when we're back in the area.

The breakfast tasted pretty good, but staff sweeping under our table while we ate made us feel hurried. We were there at 7:30am, and only four people were having breakfast. The hotel's condition was poor too: hallway carpet was coming loose, making it hard to walk or roll our suitcases and bowling bags, and the floorboards in our room were buckling upward. We were in town for a bowling tournament, so the location was about the only positive. We stayed here earlier this year and had no hot water then. This time I mentioned that at check-in, but the front desk brushed me off, saying they had to reset it and that the hotel was full. Sure enough, there was no hot water again in the morning. After two bad stays, we won't be coming back to the Best Western.

The room and breakfast were both decent, and the staff were really friendly and attentive. I was there for work from Sunday night through Thursday night. The room next door was pretty loud the first night, though that wasn't the hotel's fault. It was fairly quiet for the rest of the week. A great stay overall.

It used to be our usual place whenever we visited Ocean Isle, and I have good memories from earlier stays. But things change, and now it feels a bit worn out. I also needed a private spot for a Teams video call and couldn't find one, since I didn't want my hotel room in the background.
