Motel 6 Shamrock, TX

The owner at the front desk wouldn't let me check in, even though they'd already charged me. I'd accidentally booked through a third-party website, and the motel was empty with a room available. Leaving a single woman without a room in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere while she's traveling across the country, is terrible. Shame on the owners for taking advantage of people like this. There are pet-friendly motels up the street run by much better people. Spend your money elsewhere.

The woman at check-in was really nice, and the room was okay with no issues. It's not luxury, but it worked for one night, and the historic Route 66 location was cool. The hotel is away from the highway, which was fine for us. It looks kind of sketchy, but overall it felt safe. I'd definitely stay here again.

The kind staff and the refund they offered made a hard situation feel a little less frightening. My child and I were escaping an abusive husband, and this Motel 6 was our first stop on the way to safety. Things felt urgent, and we worried our abuser might know which direction we were going, so we left Shamrock only a few hours into our stay. I had booked two nights to decompress somewhere safe, but when we arrived we found no mini fridge or microwave. My 16 y/o has high functioning autism and only eats certain foods that don't come from restaurants or convenience stores, so we'd brought her food and were sad there was nowhere to keep or heat it. The motel's lack of those amenities wasn't their fault. I hadn't had time to check what was included before leaving home. We also used the bathroom before realizing what the room lacked. I was worried about losing the money I'd scraped together. I knew from working in hospitality that rooms booked online usually aren't refunded unless you pay extra for that option. I'd paid for two days, and expected to lose the second day's payment, though letting them know would give them a chance to rent the room again. The woman who checked me in had been sweet, and the staff seemed friendly, maybe family-owned. I called her from the room to explain that we had to leave for unforeseen circumstances. I said I understood I'd pay for the day we arrived and lose the second day. She immediately told me she could refund the second day because I had come in and paid at check-in instead of paying online. I got emotional. She didn't know how tight money was or that I was counting pennies and worried about having enough to get to the safe house, but she offered the refund without hesitation if I came to the lobby to check out. I was already emotional, and started sobbing as soon as I saw her to return the keys. I told her what we were facing. She refunded me, treated me with compassion, and called out as I left that I WAS BRAVE! That's how people should treat each other. Thank you, beautiful lady with the loving heart. I made it to safety and I AM BRAVE. The room was bare minimum: no mini fridge, microwave, or shampoo, only one bar of soap and one set of thin towels, and the TV remote didn't work. Most of the cheap rooms we've stayed in have at least had a mini fridge and microwave. The price was exactly what I needed while traveling with my teen daughter. I highly recommend this place.

The room was dirty and the bedding had burn holes. Don't ask them to leave the light on! They moved us to another room that was cleaner, but only a step up. Bathroom fixtures were loose, falling off the wall, and some were missing. What a dive. There are other places in town that don't show up in searches and look much better.
