Super 8 Motel - Shelby

We were two couples who needed two queen beds, but got full-size beds instead. The room had no mirror above the sink or toilet paper holder, and the floor was so dirty we had to wash our feet after showering. The sheets were stained, and the bedspreads had cigarette burns and holes. The TV kept failing. The front desk couldn't fix it, so he asked me to call customer support myself. That took about an hour, and the problem returned as soon as the TV was turned off. There was no smoke alarm, just wires hanging out of the wall. For the price, this was awful. I'd never recommend the place.

The front desk is polite, and I don't feel judged here like I do at the fancy motels. My room has no bedbugs that I've seen. Housekeeping is polite too, and leaves you alone unless you ask for help.

The room felt unsettling all night. If I'd been there longer than one night, I would've left. The non-smoking room reeked of smoke, and the door didn't feel secure, with a huge gap underneath it. The light switches were broken, the bathroom fan was off the wall, and the fridge was rusty with old hair inside. Outside, a beat-up car with a flat tire, packed with stuff, looked like it had been sitting there for ages. People were staring at me before I could even get into my room, and someone had left trash or belongings on my A/C unit. The front desk claimed an 85%/100 cleanliness rate, but I beg to differ. This place raised health, room, service, and safety concerns. I mean it when I say the New York City subway is cleaner than this property.

The rooms downstairs looked much better than those upstairs. The advertised continental breakfast was a sad joke: no fresh fruit beyond cups of Mandarin oranges, milk that was three days expired, and cereal. There was no coffee or tea, just granola bars, and no orange juice, bread, or meat. The Waffle House a quarter mile up the street, two gas stations, and the Golden coral just 100 feet away were the saving grace. I'm usually not fussy about rooms, but I wouldn't stay again if I could help it.
