Farmstead Inn & Conference Center

The Single King (Updated) on the second floor of the EAST wing was fantastic, especially the new walk-in shower and the newer leather rocking chair. It was comfortable, unlike some of the old chairs that you sink and fall into. Those really need replacing with firmer ones. I also enjoyed two nights in Farmstead Inn’s suite, with its great whirlpool, roomy layout, and all the windows. The kitchen could use some napkins under the cabinet for when someone cooks their own food in the microwave, but that’s a small thing.

For visitors heading to the Amish markets and shops, the location is the main draw. It’s easy to reach, close to the places we wanted to see, including stores run by Amish residents, and parking was plentiful and simple. The rooms were clean and maintained, but so bare that they felt more like hospital rooms than a welcoming hotel. Everything worked, and the friendly, helpful front desk clerk softened that impression, though staff interaction overall was limited. Breakfast came with the stay, but felt institutional and weak on both quality and presentation. It got the job done, but wasn’t something to look forward to. Prices are high, as is typical around here, so they didn’t seem out of line, though the value wasn’t especially good for the experience. One thing to know: alcohol isn’t allowed in guest rooms, and fines are enforced if you’re “caught,” which could surprise some travelers. It’s a practical, no-frills choice for families visiting the markets or anyone prioritizing location and cleanliness over comfort or atmosphere.

The room was spacious and very clean, and we found the bed and pillows comfortable. The women at the front desk were really nice, too. My only complaint is that doors started banging around 6am. My husband went to check and said it was the housekeepers. Otherwise, we had a great stay and would come again.

We stayed in Rooms 305 and 212, with my parents in a Grand Queen and us in a standard Queen. Both were clean and freshly made up. The hot tub wasn’t working, but they sent me notice early enough that I could have canceled; we chose not to. Breakfast wasn’t great, though there were plenty of choices. The place is about half a mile from both Blue gate theater and Blue gate dinner hall, which was perfect for us. We liked all the quilts and things to look at on the walls and around the hotel. The fireplace outside each room was lit, though I had to call the front desk to get the one by Room 305 turned on. They handled it right away, and it was running when we went upstairs to get my parent for dinner. Everyone was nice. I’d stay again. All in all, it was a great experience.
