SureStay Plus Hotel by Best Western Silver City

This hotel was horrible, don’t waste your money. The managers were rude and unprofessional, and the woman who checked me in was rude too. I asked for an early check-in and she acted like we were bothering her. The rooms are small, though clean, and breakfast was okay. The best part of our 4-day stay was the pool and some of the staff. Tonya and Cecilia, two of the housekeepers, went beyond what I expected. They took care of anything we asked for, and made sure both rooms we stayed in were clean and up to my standards. Thank you both for your hospitality. Amanda, the woman who checked us out, was also great, very professional and sweet. She went out of her way to help my wife, who was in a wheelchair and couldn’t walk, carry bags and get into my truck. Aside from those three helpful staff members, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

It’s been a couple of years since I stayed here or reviewed it, so I wanted to update my review. The hotel is conveniently located off highway NM180 east in Silver City. I’m a Best Western rewards member, and the staff recognized that right away. Parking was easy and plentiful. With everyone understaffed, I appreciate the service staff who are working. They were willing to help me however they could, and I was impressed by them. The room was clean, comfortable, spacious, and had the space I needed. It came with a mini refrigerator and microwave, but no coffee maker. In the breakfast area, they now have a machine that makes espresso. I got a double shot and added hot water for a dark roast americano. Everything worked fine and was very clean. There was continental breakfast, with the usual Best Western items like make-your-own waffles, sausage, scrambled eggs, and fruit. I was pleased the staff kept the food hot, plentiful, and available. They also suggested a couple of nearby places for breakfast and supper. I always tip the breakfast person and housekeeping. It’s an old-school way of thinking, and I hope you’ll consider doing that too. I’ve stayed up to three days while traveling, and this most recent visit was overnight. Silver City is an old mining town with lots of cultural assets and is worth exploring. If they upgrade anything, I’d suggest adding grab bars. Even average seniors could benefit. I don’t mean making the bathroom totally handicapped accessible, just adding grab bars.

The room was way too hot, even with the air turned down below 70. Water pressure was low, the ice machine on the floor didn’t work, and there was nowhere to sit except the desk chair. The desk clerk was nice, though not especially friendly. The pool was out of commission, but they didn’t tell us when we booked. They said we could walk over to the one at Comfort Inn, which isn’t acceptable. For the room and amenities, it was way overpriced.

The front desk was awesome, and everyone made me feel right at home. At breakfast, the attendant was friendly and kept everything stocked and fresh. The rest of the staff were just as welcoming and helpful. I’d happily stay here again. Well done, Staff of SureStay.
