It’s affordable, and they have a lower rate for people staying because of the hospital across the street. That’s a really nice thing for them to offer. You’ll find comfortable beds, a warm shower, nice staff and a decent continental breakfast. Just set your expectations: this is a nice, clean hotel, but it isn’t a “five star hotel,” so you’ll be disappointed if that’s what you’re looking for.

Last time I stayed here, I was hoping for the same experience, but this visit didn’t measure up. The room smelled extremely musty and had cobwebs. I was placed in a king room that was supposed to have a pull-out sofa for the three of us, but that first room didn’t stink. The latch on the second building’s door wasn’t working properly, so you have to use the side entrance. Breakfast had cereal, toast or bagels, muffins, eggs, and milk or OJ.

Bed bugs were the worst part of this stay. A family member woke up with her left arm covered in what we thought were hives, and that night we found the bugs. We had a voucher from Sanford and didn’t think to check the reviews, but should have, since this seems to happen often. When we told the staff at checkout, the response was a calm “oh no,” with no sign of concern. It felt like they were used to hearing about it. We washed everything we had in the room and still kept finding bed bugs afterward. I’m not sure room service is a thing here. We had to ask staff for a garbage bag for our dirty towels. The room keys didn’t work the first time we tried to enter, or on the attempts on later days. When we asked for new keys, they said “the battery must be dying,” meaning the door, but didn’t do anything to fix it. Even with new keys, we had to swipe over and over for several minutes before the door opened. The shower wouldn’t drain, and we found a huge wad of hair in it. It’s great that Sanford helps provide lodging for families of patients, but I strongly encourage you to stay somewhere else if you can.
