The stars were one of the best parts of our trip, and the fire pit outside the cabin made evenings especially nice. Fire Mountain Inn & Resort felt like a real break from everyday noise, with cozy cabins and a calm, rustic feel. I’d happily return for another quiet stay in the mountains.

The calm, nature-focused feel is what stood out at Fire Mountain Lodge and Resort. It seems suited to a romantic break, family trip, or time away on your own, with a peaceful setting for relaxing and being outdoors. There are nearby options for hiking, fishing, and kayaking, and a spa for unwinding afterward. We also enjoyed the food, which features local ingredients and flavors. Eating on the outdoor terrace lets you take in the mountain air with your meal. The cabins and suites have modern amenities and views of the surrounding landscape, and the staff were welcoming from the moment we arrived. Set among forests in the North Carolina Highlands, the resort pairs a rustic look with a more luxurious stay. It’s a lovely place to spend time in nature, and one I’d be glad to visit again.

Kimberely was a great hostess, always available when we needed something or wanted guidance. The horses, the view, and the cabin were all wonderful. We stayed in the Coca-Cola cabin at Fire Mountain in August for our anniversary, and had breakfast there one morning. It was delicious. I’d consider staying at Fire Mountain again if I’m in or near the Highlands.

We stayed in the Blue Valley room at The Lodge from June 19-21 2025, and the included breakfast was wonderful both mornings. There was fresh fruit, eggs Benedict, fresh juice, and more, served outside on the patio with those sweeping 100-mile views. The setting is peaceful and relaxing. Sitting on the porch with wine in the evening or coffee in the morning was a treat. Downtown Highlands is about a 20-minute drive away, but getting there is worth it. We’d gladly return and recommend Fire Mountain to others.

The owners really helped us out when we got a flat tire. They drove us back to the resort, then took us to the tire shop when the car was ready. We also liked hiking straight from our cabin and having breakfast up on the misty mountain. The kids had fun making s'mores at the fire pit, and the WiFi worked great when we needed to work. The views and sunsets were gorgeous, too.
