Days Inn by Wyndham Slidell

The free breakfast was good and ready on time, and the coffee was very good. The clean rooms also had USB plug-ins, which help if you can’t find an outlet. Staff were nice and helpful. I thought the price was a little high, but manageable, and I’ll stay here when I need to.

I booked at the last minute through Expedia while traveling, but check-in hit a glitch. It seemed Expedia and the Days Inn systems weren’t communicating, and other guests had the same problem. The manager had to step in, and we did get our rooms. For a budget overnight stay, the hotel is OK. The manager and attendant were nice and diligent in working through the issue.

I don’t recommend this motel. The walls were dirty and stained, the ceiling was moldy, and there wasn’t even a bathroom door. Worst of all, I found hair on the floor and in one of the blankets, and a pillow had several stains. The musty, cigarette-like smell felt like it was deep frying my lungs. How are you supposed to stay a day in a place like this? Just a small mistake turns this into a joke. 💀 😭

It’s 2:30 a.m. and I’m writing this from the hotel bed because I can’t sleep. This is the third night I’ve been kept awake by everything going on around me. Tonight there’s a dog barking in one room for the second night in a row, and the TV in the other room is at full volume. The walls are so thin you hear everything, like you’re involved in everyone else’s life. The smoking situation is just as bad. Even non-smoking rooms smell like some kind of smoke because the vents are connected. If someone smokes in an adjacent room or above you, you’ll smell it. I had to shower with the bathroom fan off because turning it on brought in the smell of hemp and then cigarette smoke. I had to switch rooms three times. After my workday, most of my clothes smelled like cigarettes, though I’ve never smoked and don’t want to walk around smelling that way. The only thing I can rate a little higher is the staff. From what I can tell, they work hard and are kind. The rest has been a complete miss for me. The walls are too thin, animals and non-smoking rooms aren’t separated, and this place is only good for having a roof over your head. Sorry I had to leave this review. I hope they can improve.
