Red Roof Inn Slidell

Good value, clean, and well kept. I was only here one night and didn’t bring a dog, though there were lots of families with dogs, at least seven while I was there. The rooms didn’t show any signs of pets having stayed in them. There’s a large grassy area that’s nicely maintained for walking dogs.

The location is handy, close to I-10 west, and it felt like a safe place to stay. The room had been updated, but it was rusty and run down. The bathroom was old and worn, and there were hardly any blankets, with no extras. I had two service dogs but was still charged a $15 fee for one of them. It’s next to a TA with 18 wheelers.

I travel for work often and spend plenty of time in hotels, so I know what good service looks like. My recent stay at this Red Roof Inn in Slidell, Louisiana left me very disappointed with the front desk staff. At check-in I casually mentioned that the lobby felt cold. The clerk focused on arguing about the temperature in a dismissive, somewhat aggressive way instead of acknowledging that I was uncomfortable. I’m anemic, so the cold genuinely bothered me. Later, he tried to charge my card without first making clear how I wanted to handle the deposit. When I said I preferred another way to pay it, he replied, “You should have said that before I ran it.” It came across as rude and unprofessional. I own a business myself, and how something is said matters as much as the information. When I brought up his attitude, he brushed off the concern instead of addressing it. I didn’t take it further in person because he seemed like the sort of person who might tell a guest to leave rather than work out the problem, and I’d already paid. That was especially frustrating because I’d stayed here about a week earlier and had a completely different experience with a welcoming, kind, professional female staff member. That should be the standard. I’m very disappointed and think this staff member needs customer service training. I do not play about customer service.

The room was pretty run down, and I regret not taking pictures. The blankets were thin, worn, and covered with holes and gray stains. They looked and felt like they’d been used without being changed, and should’ve been replaced years ago. The bathroom smelled and had rust all over. I wouldn’t recommend staying, even just to crash for a few hours.
