TownePlace Suites by Marriott Slidell

Our room was spotless, and the staff were kind and ready to help. The location couldn't have worked out better. The 55-inch-or-larger TV, I think, had a nice range of channels, and we could sign in to Netflix, Prime, or YouTube. I really don't have anything bad to say about this hotel.

Breakfast was the bright spot on both trips: it was hot and well stocked, and the breakfast staff kept things running smoothly. The front desk team were polite, but usually weren't at the desk, so I often had to wait for someone to come out from the back. We stayed in April and came back in May hoping for a better visit, but both were disappointing. The first time, crews were putting in a new Wi-Fi system and left the work area untidy. Our room smelled musty, the carpet by the wall air conditioner was damp, and the bathroom needed much more attention. The mirror looked as if it had been wiped with a dirty rag, the floor was sticky, the baseboards looked like they hadn't been cleaned in months, and there seemed to be mildew in the caulk. The sheets had visible stains, too, which was a letdown at a Marriott property. During the May visit, the carpet was dry, but the bathroom still wasn't very clean and had holes in the drywall. Renovation work made a lot of noise, with banging and equipment being dragged around into the evening, sometimes until 9 PM. Debris was left in the halls, stairwells, and elevator. The crews did some cleanup at night, but it wasn't at the level I'd expect from hotel housekeeping. I understand the hotel is being remodeled, but unless housekeeping gets more training and higher standards, a new coat of paint and furniture won't fix these cleanliness problems. We later stayed at another nearby hotel and had a much better visit. I usually like Marriott properties, but this one fell short of the quality and cleanliness I've come to expect, and we won't be back.

This was a very bad experience while I was mourning a death in the family. I had to leave because of the loss, and after I finally left, I received an email confirming payment and a $0 balance. At checkout, they tried to make me pay again even though payment had been arranged when I checked in. I showed the night auditor my account, where the payment had already been drafted, but the situation was handled unprofessionally and they threatened to call the authorities. The GM didn't come out to resolve it. Instead, a night manager or front desk representative spoke on her behalf. I work for Marriott and have never experienced anything like this. It was very disappointing and a disgraceful way to represent the organization.

The room was perfect and really clean. We got there early in the morning after a rough trip, and Tammy's sweet personality helped us feel a little better.
