Wingate by Wyndham Slidell/New Orleans East Area

Other than the pool, this is the best hotel in Slidell! My son and his family of six have stayed there several times when our house was full, and they loved it. The front desk staff were friendly and eager to help. The indoor pool had such a strong bleach smell that they couldn't swim for long. In winter, it was advertised as a heated pool, but it was way too cold for them to swim.

We asked twice to have something done about our room, but nobody came the whole three-night stay. The rooms and hallways smelled wet and moldy, with no air circulation. They didn't have enough towels for guests, so we had to dry ourselves with floor towels. A horrible experience. Book somewhere else.

It's a great location, with only a short drive into New Orleans, and the room was spacious. But the walls needed more cleaning and the room needed dusting. The shower was clogged, something housekeeping should have noticed while cleaning it. We asked for one set of towels and were told the hotel had run out of clean ones. How does that happen?

We mostly stay here for the indoor pool, but when we visited a couple of months ago it was closed for renovations. Nobody told us before we booked or checked in, and the staff weren't very friendly when we asked about it. We're coming back to the area and called to check whether the pool was open. The woman who answered was extremely rude. If you're looking for an indoor pool, Candlewood Suites has one and excellent customer service.
