Spark by Hilton Smithfield I-95

The staff really made this stay. The man who checked us in was welcoming, the breakfast attendant was kind and efficient, and a housekeeper figured out the magnetic do not disturb sign for me with a real smile. I'm not sure how much English she speaks, but her customer service stood out. The day clerk was also tidying up the lobby while handling other duties, and kept a good humor about it. The whole place was very clean too. Thank you!

Getting to the hotel from I-95 was convenient, and we'd stay again. The breakfast had a nice spread, including oatmeal with healthy toppings, and my son liked the bagel bar. Our room was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water.

A quiet, restful place to stop, with lots of restaurants and gas stations nearby. The rooms were spotless and the beds were really comfortable.

I paid Expedia in advance for this room, but when I arrived, the front desk said the hotel's own policy wouldn't let me check in because I lived within 60 miles. I was 51 miles away, so I had to scramble for another room at the last minute. No apology, no help, nothing. This rule wasn't listed on Expedia's page for the hotel, and they don't have it written on their website or on paper either. The clerk just pointed to a sign on the counter. If the hotel has policies Expedia doesn't show, it should contact customers after receiving the booking and payment to let them know. Now I have to call Expedia to ask for a refund, and I'm stranded looking for somewhere to stay. Terrible policy and customer service. This is ridiculous, and I'll never stay here again.
