Soldotna Inn

The room was okay, but it was a pet-friendly one and the carpet smelled like dog. They really shouldn’t have carpet in those rooms. The women at the desk were outstanding, though, very kind and helpful. I’d stay again because of the employees.

You can hear just about everything through the paper-thin walls, floor, and ceiling. There was black mold in the bathroom too. The sweet woman who ran the office in the morning is the reason I added a star.

The service was always good, and there was a basic continental breakfast, but the price gets way too high in peak season. I was here for a week waiting for my apartment to be ready. It’s okay if you’re fishing or just need somewhere to crash for a night, but I wouldn’t choose it for a family stay. The outside-entry rooms get really hot in summer, and with the windows open you hear traffic and people coming and going. The carpets were very dirty and stained.

The arguing started around 6 p.m. downstairs after a lovely dinner. Another couple at the inn were yelling, and when I called the desk at 10:10 p.m., I was told they were being given time to settle it themselves. They didn’t. At 3:30 in the morning I called again because it sounded like domestic violence, with alcohol and illegal stimulants possibly involved, but nobody answered. The fighting finally stopped at 4 a.m. In the morning, the front desk seemed indifferent when I brought it up. We will not stay again. There were also problems with both rooms: the heat and blinds were broken in the first one, and the second had pet hair all over the bed and sofa. This place has gone downhill since our last visit. For a decent night’s sleep, I’d suggest ASPEN, or heading back to Kenia for the Quality Inn, Best Western, or one of the other small lodgings.
