We had great conversations over breakfast with Mark before setting out each day, and his restaurant suggestions were sublime. My partner and I spent a few nights in the guest room at Riverhouse, where Mark, Mathilde, and their beautiful Bernese mountain dogs made us feel right at home. It was a perfect cozy retreat in a gorgeous house for a few days in Maine. Highly recommend!

Saturday morning we rented the kayak and putted around the river in front of the house. Mark and Mathilde helped us carry it down and made sure we had what we needed. The place itself is one of the most beautiful, peaceful spots we’ve stayed. We had such a good time talking with them about craft beer, technology, and motorcycles over the weekend. Mark even got us thinking about actually starting a brewery. They were always around for coffee and a chat, or to help book a restaurant. Their suggestion, Thistle Pig, was amazing. They’re great hosts, and we’ll definitely be back. When we arrived, River, the friendliest Bernese Mountain Dog, came to greet us. He was sweet and ready for attention throughout our two-night stay. Mark welcomed us too, showed us around the house, and gave us a look at the barn they’re converting into more rooms.

Mark and Mathilde were easy to talk to and accommodating. My wife expected a hotel, though, so this wasn’t really her thing. I’d left it to the last minute and tried to find somewhere especially nice and homey. They had no problem refunding our deposit, and I really appreciated that. It’s a beautiful property with lovely views, but the walls are a little thin. The stay feels more like renting a room in someone’s really, really nice river house than a hotel. Think B&B, or staying at a friend’s place. I’d still recommend it to someone else.

We were in town for a family wedding at nearby Hamilton House, and this was a wonderful B&B to stay in. Mark and Mathilde were accommodating, lovely to talk with, and outstanding hosts. We’d definitely stay again if we come back to Maine for a vacation.

The dogs were friendly and welcoming, and the room was spacious, clean, and a great place to stay. My wife and I really enjoyed being here for our anniversary. Mark was a great host and made sure we were looked after. Thanks, Mark!
