La Quinta Inn & Suites Somerset

We left before the extra four days we’d booked because the room and hotel were filthy. There was a private swim lesson in the pool when we checked in, and cigarette smell throughout the hotel. In our room, the shower tiles and cheap white curtain were covered in mold and mildew, there was mold around the AC, stains on the window curtain, sticky carpet, and a big hole in the wall that looked as though a previous guest had punched it. Worst of all, the top sheet on the made bed had dark red stains. I’m no stain expert or CSI agent, but bright red stains looked like blood to me. How could housekeeping make the bed without noticing and use a sheet like that? We didn’t even try the free breakfast. At checkout, my husband told the front desk why we were leaving and asked to check out, but the clerk didn’t process it. La Qunita then charged us for the full 5 day stay. We contacted them and waited 10 days for the refund. The bar attached to the hotel also brought loud music and rowdy guests, and the staff were rude. If you’re okay with all of that, plus being overcharged, this may be the place for you.

We brought our girls soccer team here for a tournament, and nobody wanted to use the pool because it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. The whole 2nd and 3rd floors smelled like cigarettes, too. Breakfast was awful, with almost nothing besides cereal, and the bar food had no flavor. The WiFi barely worked. One mom found several pubic hairs in her bed, and when we came back from a game, our maid had left just one bath towel for four of us. At check-in, there was only one person in line, but she accused us of rushing her, told us to go sit down, and said she’d be with us shortly. We waited 15 minutes. I heard there had been renovations, but I didn’t see any. I’d keep driving and find another hotel.

The catering rep was polite, professional, and patient when I booked my baby shower. The event service itself was awful, though, and the manager was rude. The soda bar included in my paid contract wasn’t available until the event was almost over. The servers didn’t speak English, and there was a fly in my daughter’s food. I wasn’t happy with the service at all. Management never gave me a proper apology, only the catering rep did.

We got good value for what we paid. The room was clean and comfortable, though the breakfast wasn’t as good as at other La Quinta hotels. The Middle Eastern staff were friendly and cordial, and they tried hard to make guests happy.
