Hotel Focus SFO

During a stressful stay at Hotel Focus SFO, manager Eric made the biggest difference. His help and customer service were excellent, and that stood out more than the amenities. The room was dated, the cleanliness could have been better, and there were ants or gnats in the sink. The bed, though, was comfortable. Parking felt unfair to pay for, and the continental breakfast was minimal. It's not the Hilton, but for a few convenient, reasonably priced nights near SFO, Hotel Focus will do.

The desk staff were even better than I expected, and the price was very good. The hotel was clean and well run, with a surprisingly nice courtyard, though it looked a bit like a tattered Motel 6. Breakfast was fine if you aren't expecting protein. The TV didn't work, but overall the place met my expectations.

It looked nothing like the pictures. The rooms were dirty and untidy, with squashed bugs on the floor, ants and flies around, and balls of previous guests' hair on the floor and in folded towels. The lights weren't plugged in, the sink unit was broken, and the window seals were damaged so the windows never fully shut. Parking wasn't included. I was very unimpressed and wouldn't recommend it.

Paid parking was the first problem. Guests across from our room kept slamming their door and yelling all night, so nobody could sleep. We told the front desk, and they moved us, but that didn't solve the rest. The beds were extremely small and awful, with springs easy to feel. The pillows were terrible, the duvet was all synthetic, and the air conditioner was very noisy. We were so tired from that night that the whole day, and our vacation, felt ruined. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and can't remember one this bad.
