The Jackson

The Jackson Inn has charm and potential, but my stay felt impersonal and short on attention to detail. Communication with management felt distant, sometimes through a Ring camera instead of in person. Some rooms are in a separate wing, so you have to go outside to reach the tea, coffee, and lounge area, something that wasn't made clear ahead of time. The common spaces weren't consistently tidied and trash bins were overflowing. The shared mini fridge was dirty, warm, and had leftover items in it. Tea and coffee weren't restocked, the Keurig didn't work, and although there was an ice bucket, there was no ice machine, so guests had to ask if someone happened to be available. Our room had no basic guide to amenities, heat controls, or the Wi-Fi password, and the gas fireplace, which was highlighted, didn't work. The inn could be lovely, but clearer communication, better upkeep, and attention to small details would make a real difference.

The inn itself is lovely and has the basics, but there was no hospitality or communication. I chose and paid more for a room with a fireplace. When we arrived, no innkeeper was there to greet us, so I had to call. When she came down, she casually said not to try the fireplace because it was broken. I asked if another room had a working one, but she said they were all out of order. It was December in Vermont, and I had hoped for a cozy stay. She agreed to compensate me, and before checking out I emailed what I thought was a fair refund amount. I heard nothing back. That was December 21, and I've sent several more emails since with no response. This inn doesn't have the personal touch or New England inn feeling I expected. I won't recommend it or stay again.

There was no front desk or concierge at The Jackson. Check-in was through a Ring camera on a desk in the foyer, and the common areas had empty coffee cups and wine glasses left on many tables. We also couldn't get the room temperature under adequate control. The stay was satisfactory, but customer service was poor, as other reviewers have said. If our family returns to Woodstock, we'll stay somewhere else.

We especially enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese served every day at 5 pm. Sitting by the fire with red wine while snow fell outside was hard to beat. The stay was charming and comfortable, with a lovely blend of Vermont coziness and elegant dining at a reasonable price. Thank you!
