Wellsworth Hotel

The pool tables are free, full-size 8-foot Brunswicks, which are my idea of peace and quiet. There’s also a big indoor pool with a lovely hot tub, a full gym, racquetball and basketball areas, a restaurant with a buffet around $20, plus a bar by the tables and dartboards. The rooms are spacious, and they leave Starbucks for your morning coffee. They seem to have covered just about every kind of entertainment and amenity. The place is clean, the management and customer service are top notch, and there’s a police station across the street, so it feels very safe. I felt my belongings and vehicle would be safe too. Whether you’re on your own or with your other half, I’d say it’s a must-see and a must-stay if you’re in the area. I was so happy with it that I booked another night. I came here on a whim after working on a customer’s car in Worcester. I’m a mobile auto mechanic, and since I didn’t want to drive back to the South Shore, I chose the hotel because it was on Mechanic Street. I’d had a rough few days. During the big snowstorm in Plymouth, I was stuck at the Pilgrim Sands Hotel without electricity, hot water, or heat, and couldn’t drive out in the blizzard. I hadn’t realized it wasn’t a good place to stay during a storm. I’d also driven a homeless man from his tent to his dad’s house two tons away, and I feel like finding this place was God’s blessing for the hard work and good I try to do.

The breakfast buffet at Visions was a highlight, with lots to choose from: cheese blintzs, quiche, waffles, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, oatmeal, and yogurt, plus coffee, tea, or juice. Tremendous breakfast. We stayed at the Wellsworth for two nights for a business meeting. The staff were warm and friendly, and made the conference setting pleasant. We were treated like royalty from check-in through checkout. The rooms are spacious, and I appreciated having a real tub instead of a walk-in shower. The Wellsworth is centrally located, so I’ll probably return next year.

The room was clean, but it was cold, and changing the thermostat didn’t affect the temperature of the air coming in. Two of the four lamps didn’t work, and my room wasn’t serviced during my stay. The coffee creamer had gone bad and curdled when I poured it in. I paid $700 for two nights, and there’s no room service. When I asked, I was told, "we don't have anyone to bring it to you." The restaurant is right on site, so that shouldn’t be an issue, especially at that price. Breakfast isn’t included either, and eggs and waffles cost $17. I wouldn’t recommend it. For $700, I expected a premium experience, and these problems made it feel far from that. I’d look for a more affordable place where you’d get nearly the same experience for less.

Nothing special, honestly. The rooms are okay, and the pool is warm. The area’s rough, and the hotel might be short staffed. When I went to check in, there were 15+ people in line. Avoid school vacation week, since there were kids running around everywhere.
