Zey Hotel

The hotel has a live-in cat, which was another problem for my allergies. I have a lot of allergies, and after one night the conditions were causing health problems, so there was no way I could stay the full week we'd booked. The smell through the main parts of the hotel was intense. I raised the air quality concern when we arrived in the evening, but management brushed it off. When I brought it up with reception after that first night, they called the owner, who yelled at me for suggesting there was a problem. We went back and forth the next day trying to find some compromise. I even offered to pay for half the week if we left, but they refused, said it was non-refundable, and wouldn't try to address the issue or offer any solution. We left after two nights. Awful experience with an owner or management who didn't seem to care.

The shower had no hot water for two days. I got a cold shower on the first day, told the front desk, and thought it had been fixed, but the water was cold again on day two. The room was comfortable otherwise. We visited in December and were the only guests, which felt a little awkward. The reception area and ground floor are nice, though the property is starting to show its age, with little things left unattended, like cat hair on a lounge pillow and missing vent covers. Mornings brought Kirkland Coffee from a Keurig on the ground floor, along with plastic-wrapped pastries. There was also a Blink security camera tucked into a plant in the second-floor lounge. Why? For a pseudo-boutique hotel, I expected a lot more. The location was great.

We were there just one night, on Christmas Eve, so didn't get to try everything the hotel offered. Still, we really enjoyed the stay. Jessica was there for both check-in and check-out, and she was extremely helpful and accommodating. The rooms were clean and cozy.

We were in Greenport at the last minute and decided to stay overnight in town. We got lucky choosing the ZEY Hotel. Mia was at the front desk and made us feel welcome, helping us with everything. While we checked in, we met Jessie, another hotel employee and a real ray of sunshine, along with Little Mia, the hotel's precocious lobby cat. The ZEY and the people working there felt wonderfully unique. I'm grateful for their hospitality and for how well Mia, Jessie, and Little Mia looked after us. Our weekend would probably have been nice at another hotel too, but it wouldn't have felt nearly as special.
