The quiet location and sweet porch overlooking the water were lovely, especially for the gorgeous sunsets. The kitchen amenities were a plus. Javier was attentive and went out of his way to make our Maine stay special. Highly recommend.
Our private deck had beautiful views over the quiet harbor, and the tiny lodging felt very private, just right for two people. It’s within walking distance of downtown Southwest Harbor and a short drive from Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and Cadillac Mountain. Javier was welcoming and easy to reach by phone, though we never needed to call. Contactless check-in was appreciated. Our favorite restaurants were Cafe Drydock, Cafe 2, Sip 2.0 for a wonderful prepared meal to take away, Batson’s Fish Camp, and Beals. In Bar Harbor, we liked Galyns and Paddy’s. We had a wonderful stay at The Deck House and highly recommend it for some togetherness.
The Deck House had everything we needed, and Javier was very responsive. We spent a week there while visiting Maine and Acadia National Park. It was close to hiking but still quiet and private. We had a great experience and will definitely return to the area.
We’re on our third rental of the Fok-Sul at Pier One because we love being right on the water. Even in our first year, when the weather wasn’t great, we enjoyed it. Watching the 11-foot Bay of Fundy tide come and go in Southwest Harbor is calming, especially with early morning coffee on the deck. The place is a little funky, maybe an old fisherman’s home. Beal's is an easy two-minute walk if you like lobster, and the center is less than ten minutes on foot. Sawyer's Specialty and Little Notch Bakery are worth the walk, and you can pick up homemade jam on Clark Point Road. For a change of scenery, head to the Claremont Hotel, on the National Register, for a drink overlooking Somes Sound. The L.L. Bean Explorer bus stops near Pier One and goes to Bar Harbor, so you can avoid parking, or into Acadia National Park. The Farmers' Market is in Bar Harbor on Sundays, by the Y on Park Street. Nothing’s perfect, though. I wish Don and Javier would have a garage sale and clear out half the pots and pans left by visitors over the years. We added the salad spinner to the collection. Enjoy.
We were surprised to find that the studio listed as Fok-sul was roomier than expected, with a sitting area, full kitchen and breakfast nook, front patio, and a balcony at the water's edge. Well-chosen found objects give it the feel of a magical hideaway. Sitting out back with wine, watching the inlet, lobstering activity, and dusk settle in was so relaxing. We loved hanging out there and tuning out the tourist bustle.
