Fairfield Inn & Suites Spokane Downtown

The river is very close, with a lovely boardwalk, and we walked over to the Jundt Art Museum on Gonzaga campus. Staff were consistently friendly, and there’s good coffee in the dining room all day. The place was clean, though the bedroom cover was lousy. Breakfast was mostly the usual carbs and sugar, so I brought my own. They do have apples and bananas. I could hear cars racing late at night even through my earplugs.

On my second trip to Spokane, Washington State from Australia in just 3.5 months, I stayed at Fairfield by Marriott again. It’s very clean, reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly. There’s a great restaurant, Osprey, 350 metres away, and it’s an easy walk downtown along the Spokane River. I’ll come back again. Brandy was especially kind. Paul Swaverly, who works for Fairfield by Marriott, stopped his lunch and drove me to Spokane Airport at a moment’s notice. My taxi driver was stuck in traffic after a big accident on the Interstate and would have been late. I’d met Paul on my previous trip 3.5 months earlier. He’s a very kind and decent man. The room worked well for us, and I’d stay again, though I’d choose the highest floor next time. We were on the first floor, which is normally fine, but we could hear every footstep from the room above and that wasn’t fun. Otherwise it was a good room, clean, with respectful staff who were always responsive.

Breakfast was pretty minimal. They do serve food, but it wasn’t anything I’d write home about or even text a friend over. For one night, though, it was clean enough, safe enough, and conveniently located, so it did the job. The Fairfield Inn downtown Spokane feels like it used to be nice. There’s literally just one elevator for the whole building. The HVAC under the window rattled like a roll of quarters in a washing machine, so you get a free white noise machine. This place is due for a full refresh, or maybe a whole new life.
