Comfort Inn & Suites Spring Lake - Fayetteville near Fort Bragg

A few room issues outside her control kept this from being five stars, but I’d stay again. Kierstan at the front desk was a rock star. I had a booking problem and she did an outstanding job sorting it out. It was a pleasure meeting and working with her.

The staff were very friendly, and I chose this place again because it’s within 20 minutes of a range of restaurants. Still, after my second visit, I won’t be staying again. My first stay was nice, though I noticed cigarette smoke lingering in the lobby then, and it was still there a month later. It didn’t reach the rooms, but it made a bad first impression. On this visit, the room smelled musty or like mildew. It felt warm, so I wondered if it was humidity, turned on the AC, and waited until the next day. The odor was still there when I returned. I didn’t tell the staff because I wasn’t sure what was causing it. On my last night I noticed both my clean and dirty clothes felt damp. Around 2AM that night, I saw a cockroach crawl from the sink toward the wall. I tried to kill it, but it ran into a crack between the floor and wall under the sink. It was too late to find another hotel or ask to change rooms, so I stayed. The building seems a bit old. Parking behind the Comfort Inn didn’t feel very secure. I sometimes parked in front, but that meant a longer walk to my room. It’s an average hotel and didn’t wow me; the smell and that last night sealed it for me.

The room was kept clean and in good shape, though the building itself is older and the carpets could use a cleaning. It’s 5 minutes from base.

The room was nice, but getting help was a problem. I was told to call the front desk if I needed anything, but every call got a busy tone. My cell phone couldn’t connect either. That’s why service gets 3 stars.
