Econo Lodge Spring Lake near Fort Bragg

I booked a room here by mistake through hotels.com and realized it right away, so I contacted them immediately. Since the rate was non-refundable, they said they’d have to ask Econo lodge directly for a refund. They tried, but Econolodge wouldn’t refund me even though I canceled right away and never stayed. I know the booking was my mistake, but I wish they’d shown more understanding.

I arrived early and went inside to ask whether I could check in ahead of time. The place looked trashed and unkempt, with broken windows, nasty debris all over the yard, and a destroyed hotel sign visible from the highway. The people coming and going looked homeless to me. I turned around and stayed somewhere else. I didn’t dare go to a room, so I can’t rate that.

We were given another room after complaining about roaches in the first one, but that room was dirty too, with stains on the couch and blanket, plus more roaches. The hallway looked nasty as well. By then it was already around one something, and we figured we wouldn’t get a refund, so we cleaned the room as best we could and got through the night. This place is disgusting. I wouldn’t let anyone stay here, and it needs to be shut down.

DIRTY and nasty. Big roaches everywhere, including in the rooms. They make you put down a $20 deposit on top of the $80 or $100 room bill, then come up with a reason to keep it. The staff are very rude. When I complained about roaches, she gave me $5, which is nowhere near what it’ll cost to get a roach out of my house if they got into my pocketbook. The windows in the room had bullet holes, and the drawers weren’t cleaned out. You can only get coffee, and there’s no ice. The TV makes you scan every channel whenever you turn it on, which takes about 40 minutes. Don’t stay here. Pay a couple dollars more to go somewhere else, or sleep in your car.
