Best Western Deerfield Inn

The pool shuts at 10 PM, even though lots of third-party sites list a later closing time. Their policies about locals renting rooms also seem odd, with different rules advertised online and in person. Our room cards stopped working halfway through the stay, and the employee wasn’t surprised, so this didn’t seem new. Breakfast is advertised until 9:30 AM, but the food ran out during the final half hour while guests were still arriving for the breakfast they’d been promised and paid for. On the plus side, the rooms were clean, the location was ideal, and the price was good for the amenities we expected.

Clean rooms, good service, and a location I liked. I enjoyed the fresh waffles at breakfast. It’s a good basic spot for a quick weekend getaway, with nothing fancy, but we only came back to the room to sleep.

Jennifer at the front desk got us into a main-floor accessible room early, which was a big help since I use a wheelchair. We’d arrived a little early to clean up before an afternoon plan, and her accommodation meant we could make our activity and get back in good time. The room was perfect. Beds were comfy, breakfast was decent, and the staff were friendly. The Springfield location was good, with plenty to do nearby. We’d choose this hotel again if we needed a place to stay in Springfield.

At checkout, they said a minor, washable spill had permanently “ruined” a commercial bath mat, and demanded $30 in cash instead of laundering the stain as a hotel normally would. The towel costs $2.50. After a stressful argument just to get my deposit back, they reduced the fee to $10. I kept the mat because they made me buy it. One standard wash at home removed the mark completely, without staining, so it was never damaged. At check-in, the desk demanded a $150 cash incidental deposit but gave me no written receipt. They used that lack of paperwork to hold on to my cash. Management later sent a defensive text that twisted the fact the front desk had let me wait an hour on a bench for my ride into a “courtesy,” and gaslit my experience. I’m documenting everything and escalating this undocumented cash practice to Wyndham Corporate. Beware of the arbitrary fees and cash handling here. Avoid this property at all cost!
