The new innkeepers tried their best. We were there for two days after it reopened following cyclone Helen, and the views were great. It's very quiet, but the creaky floorboards mean you can hear everyone walking outside your room. With kids, keeping them still is nearly impossible, and then you risk being shushed by the neighbors. There isn't much for kids to do besides the emerald mining tours.

We only stayed one night as part of a road trip, but loved it. The owners were understanding when traffic delayed us until after 6 p.m., and they met us for a late check-in. The building is old, though they've done a terrific job updating the conveniences and keeping the place spotless. I'm pretty sure it's the cleanest hotel I've stayed in. The views are AMAZING, and sunrise from the balcony is breathtaking, so plan to catch it. Highly recommend!

The sunrise from the balcony is amazing, and the hotel is very clean. It has an older charm, a unique history, and some nice updates. I would have liked the bar to stay open later and on more days. A guest checked into the room next to us late and was very noisy, slamming doors and walking loudly on the wood floors until late at night. That's not the hotel's fault, but people should be considerate. The floors carry footsteps and door noise. I'll definitely stay again.

The location is excellent, the views are spectacular, and the rooms are average but clean. The noise, though, is constant. On weekends it's music; in the mornings before lunch and on weeknights it's FOX news blaring in the dining room with the local bar crowd. When you complain, you get sarcasm or near-rudeness and empty promises to handle it. If anything, it gets louder. People go on vacation to get away from this.

We were welcomed when we arrived, and the owner even found a way to get us burgers through a friend. That kindness meant a lot when we needed help most. We could have had a miserable stay or gone hungry, but instead we were looked after. The beautiful rooms and appearance were lovely too, but being treated so kindly mattered more. My husband and I had driven 13 hours during winter storm fern, racing it across the country. We were upset when we couldn't get home and got snowed in, unable to move. Spruce Pine was completely shut down by the time we arrived, including gas stations and stores. We chose Skyline Village Inn because it offered breakfast, unlike a closer motel. All of this happened around 4 to 6 o'clock. I also thought it was really cool to have a door to the outside right beside the bedroom.
