Motel 6 Columbia West

The manageress was very helpful and apologetic when I told her about the room. There was a hole punched through the bathroom door, which I had to ask them to repair. The room wasn’t very clean: the sink had soap scum around it, and I’m not sure the sheets had been changed because there was hair in them and they were crinkled lengthways. The shower faucet was faulty and leaked badly while in use. The blanket and bedspread had cigarette burns, as if someone had snuffed cigarettes out on them, even though I’d booked a NON SMOKING room. I’ve stayed at Motel 6 in many locations, and this was one of the worst, though the location is good. I may come back because of the location and because the manageress said another company was taking over management, hopefully improving things. I’d suggest requiring everyone to leave a credit card at check-in, as I did, and warning guests they’ll be liable for smoking or damaging the property. I can’t understand why people break things or leave cigarette burns and feel nothing about it. Thank you.

The property looked bad on arrival. It wasn’t well kept, the grass needed cutting, and the area outside the rooms needed cleaning. The bed was worn out with a dent in the middle. The room also had dirt on the floor, ashes by the tub and toilet, a beer cap in the toilet, an old empty toilet roll on the holder, and soap and dirt in the tub. It was meant to be non-smoking, but the marijuana smell hit us as soon as we entered, almost knocking us over. Towels were handed out at the front desk. The woman ahead of me got both white and blue ones, which was odd. I reported the problems to the front desk, and I guess the manager sent someone to the room. My friend said he sprayed some kind of spray. I asked for another room, but the manager said none were clean after 3 p.m., even though check-in is after 3. When I was talking with the front desk employees about a refund, a cleaner came over and asked them, “If you told them the room was clean, what are they complaining about?” I told her it smelled like a marijuana factory and was dirty, and we wouldn’t let our dog stay in it. We’d stayed at Motel 6 in Kissimmee, which was nothing like this filthy place. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone in SC. It was horrible, and I had to spend more money I didn’t really have to find somewhere safe and clean. The other hotel was worth it, much, much better by 1000%.

The front desk staff were courteous and nice, but the facilities were run down and very dirty. Roaches were all over the outside corridors, which were filthy and looked like the grounds were never cleaned. Inside, the floor was sticky, the sink was broken, water leaked from the pipes, and the sheets, pillow covers, and blankets were dirty, smelly, and seemed unwashed. The supposedly non-smoking room had an unbearable smoke odor, and the A/C didn’t work. There were leftovers in the fridge from previous guests, so it hadn’t been cleaned either. We started itching all over as soon as we entered, and the room seemed to have fleas or bed bugs. We left after 10 minutes without staying the night and booked somewhere else. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It should be shut down by the health department, especially during COVID times.

The desk clerk was very nice and pointed us toward food delivery when we arrived at 9:40 p.m. after traveling. Getting to the room meant passing the smell of marijuana, and the parking lot felt spooky. The room was dirty, with something on the bathroom door and sticky floors. Other occupants were loud right outside until midnight. At 3 a.m., the person in the next room was moaning and groaning loudly through the paper-thin walls. The squeaky bed wasn’t comfortable, and there were no in-room amenities: no coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, or even a cup to rinse your mouth. Sleeping in my car would have been more comfortable.
