The Florida Motel - Unit 6

I wasn’t sure about booking this Airbnb for a night with my father, but once we got there, it turned out to be a really nice place to stay. It has a cool 50s feel inside and out, with enough updates to keep it comfortable. Everything worked, and the service was exemplary. We’d absolutely stay again.

The bathroom smelled so strongly of rotten fish that it was enough to make me gag, and there was no resolution. Getting hold of the owner was incredibly difficult. After I finally reached him, he said they used to have bikes for rent but didn’t anymore, even though the listing online showed bikes. We had to contact booking.com for help with the bathroom issue. Pulling in, the building looked nearly abandoned and as if it hadn’t been cleaned in months. It was a miserable experience. These reviews have to be paid for or something.

The outside looked a bit run down, but the inside was nicer than I expected. It was furnished well, with a coffee maker, plates and silverware, and an ironing board. The room also had Roku, though you need to log in to your own streaming accounts. Room 5 got the hookup ;). There were two chairs and a small table outside each room for smoking. The shower took a few minutes of running hot water to warm up. They also provide two bikes and helmets per room, which was great since the motel is about a 10-minute drive from town. We rode around the city and locked the bikes up, so we didn’t have to pay for parking everywhere. If the tires feel a little flat, there’s a gas station near the motel where you can fill them for 75c. I had trouble with the bike locks, but customer service helped me sort it out in about 15 minutes, even at 8 p.m. They were very accommodating. Overall, it was a really nice stay that made my time in St. Augustine more fun and interactive.

We stayed for six weeks and had a great time. We were in room 2, right in the heart of downtown, and it was a safe area. Don’t let the outside put you off, the rooms were cute. We only had a few issues, and the host responded quickly whenever we reached out. My wife and I would definitely love to come back.
