Americas Best Value Inn & Suites St. Louis, St. Charles Inn

I couldn't stay at America’s Best Hotel at all. I had confirmed a pet-friendly room for May 30, but when I arrived, they said none were available, even though I was traveling with my pet. I had to find somewhere else at the last minute. The front desk said I would get a refund. I later asked Hotels.com for help, and they tried contacting the hotel several times. Management hasn't replied to their inquiries, so this still isn't resolved. Between the reservation not being honored and the poor follow-up, this has been extremely frustrating. I wouldn't recommend relying on a pet-friendly booking here.

The bed was comfortable and the AC worked, but that was about it. The room's rugs were stained and filthy, so I kept my shoes on. The furniture was broken, the toilet took at least three flushes to clear the paper, and the shower never got hot. The water pressure was almost nonexistent, the shower head didn't work right, the TV cut out every two minutes, and the towels were stained. The vanity light was dim. I put a pillow inside my sweaters and slept on top of the blankets. There was dog food wedged in a bathroom crack, and the ceiling looked like it had water damage. The room door had a gap big enough for me to fit my pinky through, so I put the ironing board in front of it because anyone could look in. The hallway rugs were filthy too, and the whole floor smelled like cigarettes despite the no-smoking signs on every door. There was a no-smoking sticker on the entrance, but cigarette smoke hit us as soon as the doors opened. The lobby didn't look like the online photos, and neither did the rest of the place. Even the people parked beside us smelled like weed laced with Crack.

The staff were nice and the location is great, but nearly everything else was disgusting. The lobby, halls, rooms, and pool area were all a mess, and the pool wasn't even open. The place is such a wreck right now it might as well be a by-the-hour hotel.

My girlfriend was scared for her safety, and we ended up leaving to find another hotel at 11pm. Staff apologized and said the woman who kept knocking on my door was a long-term guest who was going through something, but that didn't make the situation okay. We weren't doing anything noisy, yet she kept telling us to be quiet. They wouldn't move us until I'd packed up halfway through our stay, and by then we had to go. The pool was ice cold, and I was told they weren't going to fix the heaters. Long-term guests seemed to get priority over everyone else. This was the worst hotel I've ever been to. Absolutely horrible.
