Super 8 Motel - St. Clair

The staff were friendly and brought us fresh blankets when we asked, but the room felt unsafe to me, so we left after one night. The door latch was broken and wouldn’t close all the way. Both the bedding on the bed and the replacement sheets were stained, and there was a scary looking mark on the mattress that genuinely looked like blood. We didn’t see bugs, but the floor was dirty.

I slept quite well, and the room was comfortable and put together nicely. My only issue was the smoking indoors. I didn’t smell it in my room, thankfully, but could smell it in the hallway on the way there and downstairs in the morning as I walked to breakfast. That’s not what I want to breathe in at the start of the day. Apart from that, I had a very nice stay at this Super 8.

The room smelled so bad I couldn’t get back to sleep, and my pillow had a strong old, unwashed smell. I’m expecting a poor sleep score. The bedding was just a sheet and a thin comforter, with no extra covers in the cabinet. The only shampoo was one small used bottle, about a quarter full. On top of the room fee I’d paid three weeks in advance, they required a $100 cash deposit. There’s no pool, which disappointed the kids I unexpectedly had to bring along. I also couldn’t find the eating room, even though I was told where it was, so I don’t know whether breakfast is any good or even available. I won’t stay here again. I was in room 219, and it smelled really bad.

The AC and heat barely worked, and getting help took a while when someone was needed. The room wasn’t clean: the floor was so dirty we had to wash our feet several times a day, there was toothpaste all over the faucet and mirrors, and bugs were in the corners.
